Dog Walking Position

Description
You must have a car and an EXTREME love for dogs to apply for this position. The Dog Walking position includes walking the client’s dog(s), feeding and watering per client instruction. You must also be able to self-manage and be comfortable walking in the heat, cold rain and/or snow. 10am-2pm are the hours most suited for the dog walking job. It is advisable that you be available for at least two non-consecutive days (example: T/TH or M/W/F).

Required Duties

  • You must have internet access and go online to the Power Pet Sitter and check off that you completed your visits. This must be done the day of your visits.
  • You will go to an initial consultation to meet the owner and dog(s) to see if you are a good fit and vice versa. You will work out details for obtaining keys to client’s home at the initial consultation. You will not be compensated for this as it is an interview. If you need to make additional visits before starting the job you will be compensated for that.
  • Print the client information sheet to take with you on the consultation and add any additional notes. If there are additional notes, please let the office know so they may be added in the system.
  • Walk dog(s) on a leash, even in adverse weather conditions. Keep the dog you are walking away from other dogs until you are certain the dog you see is friendly.
  • Keep client’s home secure while away on the walk.
  • All dogs must be on leash on the walk or in a fenced area at the owner’s home. Do not depend on an invisible fence for securing the dog(s).
  • Write daily diary notes to the client on activities of your visit.

Most cat visits are once a day and that time may be flexible. (If a client should want a specific visit time for a cat you will be informed before you start sit.)
  • Pet Sitting visits for dogs should be done at roughly the same time each day to keep the continuity for the dogs. Dog visits are either 2 or 3 times a day. Visits for dogs include feeding, giving fresh water, playing, bringing in the mail and newspaper, and watering a small number of plants, plus a 15-20 minute walk per visit.
  • Due to the bonding that occurs between sitter and animal we require at least a six month commitment to working with our company on an ongoing basis as a pet visitor. We get a lot of repeat clients. Clients (and animals) value the continuity and stability that our long-term staff provides them. Please let us know if you have any questions about this or are not able to commit to sitting for at least the next six months.
